Powerway’s real time SPC solution in action at Blanc Aerospace UK, part of the international group, Lisi Aerospace.

Lisi Aerospace specialises in the manufacture of aerospace fastening systems, where they rank at number 3 globally. They have a worldwide presence of 10 sites around the world and more than 2500 employees. Their turnover is of €212 Million.

Lisi boast all the big names in the aerospace and automotive industry as customers, including: Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, GEAE, Eurocopter, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, Snecma, various Formula 1 and NASCAR racing teams.

Blanc Aero UK is part of the Lisi Aerospace group. They produce manufacturing fastenings systems for airframe structures from their site in Rugby. Dave Wootton is the Quality Assurance Manager and he recalls when they purchased Powerway Suite 2000 in 2002: “We were originally looking for an SPC solution and we evaluated quite a few different products. The package offered by Powerway

Another additional benefit expressed by Dave Wootton is that Powerway SPC has allowed Blanc Aero UK to identify areas for improvement on processes that needed changing. They can then go and analyse Cpk for process lines.

Blanc Aero UK and Powerway/Syncronology have been working closely for the last 4 years and this partnership is likely to carry on in the future. Blanc Aero are looking into deploying Powerway Suite 2000 further by entering processes and procedures under control using Powerway Suite 2000’s Document Manager and Desktop solutions. Their first aim is to bring all Quality documents into Powerway and then all Engineering documents in 2006. Currently, both parties are in conversation also to work on a project to allow users to log in into Powerway by using a swipe card integrated into a bar code recognition system.

  • Mouse-less interface option for harsh environments.
  • Traffic light style alarms instantly alert you to problems with process behaviour.
  • Highly flexible configuration provides you with the ability to apply the software to unique situations.
  • Variable subgroup sizes and sample frequencies allow you significant freedom in configuration.
  • Configuration objects make Powerway SPC simple to configure, even when the part and process is complex.

was of great interest as they were the only company offering a modular approach, where we could start using SPC first and then add calibration, document control and other modules to our existing solution.

“Powerway SPC has proved very robust and it provides us with most of what we want, from crystal reports to historical, real time and on time data”.

Dave Morris, Quality Technical Administrator, is responsible for the administration of Powerway Suite 2000. He explains: “We started using Powerway within the Quality department measuring data after the event. We have now rolled it out to the shop floor and we collect data from about 20 locations into 12 workstations”.

Dave Morris, as administrator, ensures that all the jobs are correctly set up and operators then enter the data. He explains: “It is pretty straightforward to use when you have been trained on it and we pull out data from each location every two weeks. The integration between our Mitutoyo system (for gauges) and Powerway Suite 2000 is working very well and reduces greatly the danger or inputting wrong data in the system”.

Blanc Aero customers have also seen the benefits. Customers are supplied with Cp and Cpk statistics directly from the software. Morris comments: “Powerway SPC also helps when customers restrict the tolerance on some of the 5 critical characteristics. We use Powerway to demonstrate the effect on capability of changing tolerance values”.
